President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance released details involving their newly declared “War on Fraud.”
According to the Tuesday White House release, “The White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud is moving at unprecedented speed and ferocity to root out the waste, abuse, and criminal exploitation of government programs that have drained billions from hardworking taxpayers.”
In March, President Trump signed an Executive Order creating the National Task Force on Public Fraud. Vice President J.D. Vance was named the leader of the initiative via RSBN.
On Tuesday, Vance also gave an update on what the task force has uncovered. During the Anti-Fraud Initiatives Round Table with State Attorney Generals, he stated, “In just two months, we exposed billions of dollars in benefits that have been stolen from the American people.”
He then laid out the extent of the fraud, stating:
- We referred over $22 billion in fraudulent small business loans back to the Treasury for collection.
- We deferred more than $1.3 billion in fraudulent Medicaid reimbursements that were coming from various states, particularly California.
- We put a six-month hold on enrollments for new hospice and new healthcare providers because so many of the newer hospice providers were not actually providing hospice services.
- We recovered taxpayer funds from the $135 billion stolen after the floodgates were open in the immediate aftermath of COVID.
- We have found $6.3 billion in suspected fraudulent government contracts, which were mostly awarded during the last administration, and that has stopped.
- And finally, we’ve blocked $60 million in student aid fraud that should’ve gone on to young people trying to get an education, but instead, were going to fraudsters.
The war on fraud has gained support from conservatives who seek to balance the U.S. government budget. Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa., applauded the new war on fraud in a post on X. He wrote, “Washington spent years looking the other way while fraudsters ripped off taxpayers. That era is over.”
