President Donald Trump announced the confirmation of Jay Clayton on Wednesday as the Interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

The president expressed his pleasure with the confirmation and blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for delaying his nominees.

“I am pleased to announce that Jay Clayton will serve as the Interim United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. During my First Term, Jay served with great distinction as the Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and earned the respect of everyone,” Trump said on Truth Social.

“I announced my intent to nominate Jay for the Southern District of New York on November 14, 2024, and his Nomination received wide, Bipartisan support. Now, after five months and, even though Jay was previously confirmed by the Senate on a Bipartisan basis, and has complied with ALL requests of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chuck Schumer has announced that he is blocking all New York U.S. Attorney Nominees,” he added.

According to the president, the Southern District “leads the Department of Justice’s oversight over our Financial Markets, and fights for the safety of Millions of New Yorkers and the over 60 Million people who visit New York annually.”

Trump called for “strong leadership NOW” and thanked Cutler for his service as Republicans pursue his Senate confirmation.

Trump has spoken out against confirmation delays by Democrats on multiple occasions since his return to the White House.

“Democrats are purposefully delaying virtually all of my Nominees. No matter how good and well qualified someone is, they are taking maximum time for approval — and laughing about it. They’re having a good time at the Country’s expense and safety,” the president wrote in a February Truth Social post.

“If George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were nominated for a position, the Democrats would take it out to the last moment before having to approve. It is disgraceful! They can’t get over the landslide loss suffered in the Presidential Election. But the Democrats don’t understand, with what they’re doing, that their losses will only get greater. Republicans must GET TOUGH — AND MUST GET TOUGH VERY FAST. We need our Nominees NOW, for the Safety and Good of our Country!” he argued.
