President Trump has announced major funding to assist North Carolina in its recovery from recent damaging floods. In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared his approval of the funding and expressed his hope that local Republican lawmakers would be able to use the funds to restore affected areas of North Carolina.
“I am proud to approve nearly $32 Million Dollars in assistance for the Great State of North Carolina, which I WON BIG all six times, including Primaries, in response to their recent flooding events in July,” Trump said.
Senator Tedd Budd, future Senator Michael Whatley, and all of our incredible North Carolina Republicans have asked for this, and I am happy to do it — North Carolinians deserve it. I just notified Governor Stein, and I fully expect he will make sure the funds are used to help the State recover quickly,” he added.
In the wake of Tropical Depression Chantal, North Carolina has experienced significant flooding, with much of the damage occurring outside of designated flood zones. The flooding comes as North Carolina is still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene in September of 2024.
In his announcement of funding assistance, Trump criticized Democratic leaders in the state for their failure to adequately respond to the hurricane damage last year. Trump specifically criticized the former governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, who is running as the Democratic candidate for Senate against Republican Michael Whatley. Earlier this year, Cooper held a six-point polling lead over Whatley due in part to greater name recognition among voters.
“The last Democrat Governor, Roy Cooper, who now wants to be Senator, did a terrible job with all of the Storms and massive Water Damage to the State,” Trump said. “We came in on January 20th, and did a great job of bringing North Carolina BACK. Michael Whatley and Ted Budd were of great help. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
