President Donald Trump is the unmistakable favorite for the 2024 Republican primary nomination among GOP voters, and there isn’t even a close second.
A new poll from Emerson College found that among GOP primary voters, Trump netted 55 percent of support, while potential 2024 GOP presidential candidate, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., scored 25 percent of support.
DeSantis, who has been touted by some to be the “heir apparent” to Trump, has lost considerable traction in the polls over the last two months, ahead of what is speculated to be an upcoming announcement of his possible 2024 presidential candidacy.
No other speculative GOP candidate has even come close to touching Trump’s poll numbers. Declared GOP candidate, former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, managed to net 5 percent of support in the Emerson College poll, while Former Vice President Mike Pence scored 8 percent.
The newest data from Morning Consult’s 2024 GOP Primary Tracker displayed yet another Trump victory in the polls. As businessman Vivek Ramaswamy launched his GOP presidential campaign in February on the heels of Haley’s campaign announcement, the numbers did not shift dramatically.
In their poll, Trump accrued 48 percent of GOP voter support in a hypothetical 2024 primary election, while DeSantis managed to net 30 percent. Pence scored 7 percent, Haley garnered 6 percent, and Ramaswamy began his presidential campaign with just 1 percent of support.
Trump’s continued momentum in the polling comes a week after his trip to East Palestine, Ohio, where he delivered much-needed aid to fatigued citizens in the area who were affected by the toxic chemical train derailment disaster. No other declared GOP candidate has visited East Palestine. Notably, Joe Biden has not yet visited the Ohio disaster-zone, either.
According to an analysis from Interactive Polls that looked at Emerson College’s data, Trump has had an overall 8-point swing of support in his direction since November 2022.
