President Donald Trump’s campaign has responded to the unrest that developed with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, slamming Joe Biden’s push for electric vehicles amid an already-crippled economy.
The campaign stated, “Joe Biden’s Electric Vehicle mandate will murder the U.S. auto industry and kill countless union autoworker jobs forever, especially in Michigan and the Midwest. There is no such thing as a ‘fair transition’ to the destruction of these workers’ livelihoods and the obliteration of this cherished American industry.”
This week, UAW President Shaw Fain stated that they planned to negotiate with General Motors, Ford Motor Co., and Stellantis over contract negotiations for auto workers amid a rapidly approaching contract deadline, NBC reported.
Earlier this week, President Trump strongly decried Biden’s handling of the situation, predicting the destruction of the American auto industry in Michigan if the nation truly pushes for electric vehicles over traditional cars.
“The Great State of Michigan will not have an auto industry anymore if Crooked Joe Biden’s crazed concept of ‘all Electric Cars’ goes into effect,” he warned.
The Trump campaign explained on Thursday, “The only acceptable policy for UAW members should be the complete and total repeal of Biden’s catastrophic EV mandate. President Trump looks forward to doing exactly that on his first day back in the Oval Office. Union leadership must decide whether they will stand with Biden and other far-left political cronies in Washington, or whether they will stand with front-line autoworkers and President Trump.”
Trump has previously vowed to “stop this Madness” of Biden’s attempt to migrate American auto production to Chinese-based EV production. “The Auto Industry in America will cease to exist!” he said.
The campaign pointed out that the president “saved the U.S. auto industry” during his first term in office, reminding Americans that, under Trump, the U.S. withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and brokered the USMCA trade deal.
“That’s why autoworkers will be voting for President Trump in massive numbers in 2024,” the campaign concluded.
