President Donald Trump announced former Georgia Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler as his nominee to lead the Small Business Administration (SBA) on Wednesday.
Trump shared the news in a statement posted to his Truth Social account with detailed regarding his decision.
“I am very pleased to nominate business leader and former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, from the Great State of Georgia, to serve as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA),” Trump wrote.
“Small Businesses are the backbone of our Great Economy. Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our Small Businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive. She will focus on ensuring that SBA is accountable to Taxpayers by cracking down on waste, fraud, and regulatory overreach,” he continued.
Trump’s lengthy statement added that Loeffler has been an outstanding leader in the U.S. Senate during the first Trump Administration, playing a pivotal role in advancing key legislation, including the groundbreaking bill to protect women in sports.
Before her Senate tenure, Kelly built a remarkable 25-year career in financial services and technology. Alongside her incredible husband, Jeff, she played a vital role in growing a Fortune 500 company from 100 to over 10,000 employees as Executive Vice President.
Loeffler also helped secure Trump’s election victory in Georgia. He called her a firm believer in the “American Dream,” noting her background as the fourth generation on her family’s farm and the first in her family to attend college. She earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois, an MBA from DePaul University and made history as the first CFA charter-holder to serve in the Senate.
Over the past four years, Loeffler also worked with her nonprofit Greater Georgia to strengthen election integrity, enhance voter outreach, and boost voter registration in the state, according to Trump’s statement. She was also appointed as Co-Chair of the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
Trump also announced several other nominees on Wednesday, including his pick for chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).
“I am delighted to announce the nomination of Paul Atkins to be the next Chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission,” Trump wrote.
“Paul is a proven leader for common sense regulations. He believes in the promise of robust, innovative capital markets that are responsive to the needs of Investors, & that provide capital to make our Economy the best in the World. He also recognizes that digital assets & other innovations are crucial to Making America Greater than Ever Before,” he added.
