President Donald Trump is considering an effort to revive Title 42, a pandemic policy that allowed turning away migrants at the border over health concerns.
The policy may return within Trump’s first 100 days in office, according to a new report from Axios.
“The pandemic-era public health policy cites concerns about spreading illness to allow for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the border — preventing them from even a shot at asylum,” the outlet reported on Thursday.
“There were millions of Title 42 expulsions from early in the COVID pandemic until President Biden ended the policy in 2023,” it added.
Breitbart News noted that the Title 42 legal barrier “would make the existing but incomplete border wall far more effective by allowing the border patrol to send all caught migrants back into Mexico.”
The reinstatement of Title 42 would be made by health officials, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, it is expected to take some time for the GOP to put leaders into place who would support the pandemic-era policy.
The policy is one of several efforts to end the border crisis that became a major issue during the Biden administration. Other major initiatives include finishing the border wall and a major deportation effort, especially of migrant criminals.
Following the New Year’s terror incident in New Orleans, Trump spoke out once again about the need for ending open borders.
“Our Country is a disaster, a laughing stock all over the World! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective, and virtually nonexistent leadership,” Trump began.
“The DOJ, FBI, and Democrat state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, having spent all of their waking hours unlawfully attacking their political opponent, ME, rather than focusing on protecting Americans from the outside and inside violent SCUM that has infiltrated all aspects of our government, and our Nation itself,” he continued.
Trump claimed that Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such actions.
“Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our Country. The CIA must get involved, NOW, before it is too late. The USA is breaking down – A violent erosion of Safety, National Security, and Democracy is taking place all across our Nation. Only strength and powerful leadership will stop it. See you on January 20th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he concluded.
