President Donald Trump announced the formation of the Homeland Security Advisory Council on Thursday to advise him on policies related to the southern border.

The president stated that the council will be led by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

“I am proud to announce the formation of my revamped Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), which is comprised of Top Experts in their field, who are highly respected by their peers. It is a big honor to serve on HSAC, and I know the new Members, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Mark Levin, Bo Dietl, and Joseph Gruters, will do an incredible job,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“Under Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s leadership, HSAC will work hard on developing new Policies and Strategies that will help us secure our Border, deport Illegal Criminal Thugs, stop the flow of Fentanyl and other illegal drugs that are killing our Citizens, and MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN. Congratulations to all!” he added.

The establishment of the council follows two consecutive months of record-low illegal crossings at the southern border. The Trump administration is also continuing its deportation efforts, including the use of the Biden administration’s CBP One app to allow migrants to self-deport from the country.

“President Trump was proven RIGHT once again! SCOTUS confirms our Commander-in-Chief Donald J. Trump has the power to stop the invasion of our country by terrorists using war time powers. LEAVE NOW or we will arrest you, lock you up and deport you,” Noem posted to X on April 7.

The move comes after significant progress to reduce illegal border crossings under the Trump administration, including the number of unaccompanied migrant children at the nation’s southern border, which hit an all-time low in March, according to a report released on Friday.

The exclusive findings by The Daily Signal revealed that the U.S. Border Patrol encountered 631 unaccompanied alien children last month, down 97 percent from the Biden administration’s high of 18,716 in March 2021.

“March was the lowest number of unaccompanied children arriving at our southern border in recorded history,” Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told The Daily Signal.

An average of 11,132 unaccompanied children were encountered at the southern border each month under the Biden administration, the report added.
