President Donald Trump signed five major executive orders today and one presidential memorandum this afternoon in the Oval Office, including an order that will declassify files related to the assassinations of former President John F. Kennedy, the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The president said that he hoped “everything will be revealed,” and asked that the pen he signed the order with be given to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
President Trump additionally signed an executive order providing pardons for over 20 pro-life activists who were targeted by the Biden administration – some of whom have been imprisoned. “This is a great honor to sign this,” he said.
Trump further signed three orders on advancing technology: one order announced the administration’s policy on making America the world capital on artificial intelligence, a second order announced the administration’s mission to make America the world capital on cryptocurrencies, and a third order established an advisory commission on science and technology.
This third executive order was aimed to ensure government and private sector leaders maintain communications and relationships to help American maintain its leadership position, according to information presented during the signing.
The president’s single memorandum of the session was sent to the secretary of the interior to promote and recognize the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, whom the president said he “loved” and were “with me all the way.”
This was a fulfillment of one of his lesser-known campaign promises to help the tribe gain federal recognition. The president made the promise in September 2024, according to the Associated Press.
The president then took questions from the press on a few questions. On the subject of artificial intelligence, one reporter asked Trump if he believed it would replace American jobs. “No, it’s going to create tremendous numbers of jobs,” he said. He also highlighted the “tremendous benefits, medically, for cancer research.”
He was also asked about the 1,500 troops he has deployed to the southern border in light of the illegal immigration invasion and the subsequent national emergency he has declared to address it. One reporter asked what President Trump hoped those troops would do at the border. “[Make] sure that the border is safe and secure and that criminals don’t come into our country,” he said.
