Trump pardons pro-life activists: ‘This is a great honor to sign this’

During a special signing session in the Oval Office on Thursday, President Donald Trump pardoned over 20 pro-life activists who were targeted by the Biden administration, fulfilling the wishes of many pro-life voters.

Reports that these pardons first surfaced in an initial report from the Daily Wire early Thursday afternoon. The order Trump signed will also affect those who are not currently imprisoned but out of custody at the moment.

He told the press during the signing of the order, “This is a great honor to sign this.”

These sweeping pardons come on the heels of the president’s move to pardon nearly 1,500 January 6 political prisoners on Monday night, just hours after he was inaugurated.

On Thursday morning, Republican Senator Josh Hawley (Mo.), revealed on X that he had spoken with President Trump about the pro-lifers who are currently imprisoned or persecuted.

“I urged him to pardon them swiftly. They have done nothing wrong!” he wrote.

According to the Daily Wire, a number of pro-life advocates are still waiting to be sentenced by the Department of Justice for protesting or praying outside abortion clinics. Such activists include 89-year-old World War II concentration camp survivor Eva Edl and 59-year-old grandmother Heather Idoni.

Rumblings of President Trump’s potential decision to pardon such pro-life activists had arisen largely because the Thomas More Society, a pro-life non-profit law organization, petitioned the Commander in Chief to do so.

They asked for the pardon of 21 pro-life advocates who they say have been “unjustly prosecuted, convicted, and in several cases, imprisoned, by the Biden Department of Justice.”

The petition included a package outlining the facts of each case and why the president should grant each person a pardon.

“With these requests for presidential pardons for 21 peaceful pro-life advocates, we urge President Trump to right the grievous wrongs of the Biden administration’s weaponization of the Department of Justice These 21 peaceful pro-lifers, many of whom are currently imprisoned for bravely standing up for unborn life, are upstanding citizens and pillars of their communities,” said Steve Crampton, Thomas More Society Senior Counsel, in an official statement January 15.
