President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan shared that illegal border crossings have dropped to the lowest number he can remember in four decades.
Homan shared the update in a post to X on Monday, noting the stark difference between former President Joe Biden’s border policies and Trump’s.
“In the last 24 hours the US Border Patrol has encountered a total of 229 aliens across the entire southwest border. That is down from a high of over 11,000 a day under Biden,” Homan wrote.
“I started as a Border Patrol Agent in 1984 and I don’t remember the numbers ever being that low. President Trump promised a secure border and he is delivering,” he added.
The update comes just days after Homan announced that illegal border crossing had fallen by 90 percent compared with the same period last year, according to data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Only 359 illegal migrants per day were caught at the southern border in the first two weeks of February, the lowest number recorded since 1968.
“If you kind of break down the numbers, divide them by 365, we haven’t had numbers this low since the 1960s. So we’re talking 60-year lows if it’s sustained, obviously,” said Mark Krikorian, the executive director at the Center for Immigration Studies.
During the same period last year, officers processed over 4,800 migrants per day.
The improved numbers at the southern border are in addition to mass deportations of illegal immigrants launched under the direction of border czar Tom Homan. He is currently seeking $175 billion more in funding to help secure the border and implement the president’s policies.
Homan also reported on the number of migrant criminals arrested since Trump’s return to the White House.
“We’ve achieved success on the border already. We’ve got more work to do. And as far as the deportation operation, we’re just shy of — I think we got 5,000 arrested the first week, and a majority of them being criminals,” Homan Homan told Maria Bartiromo in a Fox News interview earlier this month.
“The non-criminals the media’s talking about, who are these non-criminals? The non-criminals are arrested in sanctuary cities because you force us into the community rather than arresting the bad guy in jail, and when we find that criminal, he’s most likely with others, and they’re going to go too. If you want to be a sanctuary city, you’re going to get more agents in the community and more upon-criminals arrested,” he added.
