President Donald J. Trump “backed the blue” Friday night, issuing a passionate call to treat America’s police force with respect.
“Leave our police alone!” Trump said at a Save America rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona. “Let them do their job, and give them back the respect they deserve!”
The 45th president’s remarks came amid his comments on the increase in crime under the Biden administration.
“Under Joe Biden, last year, murders hit their highest rate we think ever in the history of our country,” Trump said. “Under a Republican Congress, we should pass emergency funding to hire thousands more police officers, which we’ll be doing nationwide to put violent criminals behind bars and keep them behind bars.”
The president also commented on the current situation at the southern border, noting that, according to U.S. Border Patrol, there has been a 732 percent increase in illegal crossings this year compared to 2020, when he was in office.
“The radical Democrats have turned our country into one giant sanctuary for dangerous criminal aliens,” he said. “In the Republican Party, we believe our country should be a sanctuary for law-abiding citizens who love our country.”
Adding that Republicans must now focus on “making America safe again,” the president encouraged voters to help them achieve that goal by voting them into office.
“If you want to make our country safe for violent criminals, vote for the radical Democrats,” he said. “If you want to make our country safe for your children and for law-abiding Americans, you have to vote—you have no choice but to vote for Republicans.”
