A Wisconsin state representative has added her name to the growing list of legislators calling for the decertification of the 2020 presidential election.
Stating that “tyranny is at Wisconsin’s door,” state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, R-Menomonee Falls, announced Friday that she would join state Rep. Timothy Ramthun, R-Campbellsport, in calling for the move.
“Fair and honest elections are the cornerstone of our democracy and we know that the 2020 presidential election was neither fair, nor transparent,” explained Brandtjen, who chairs the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections.
“A handful of rogue clerks, along with the Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC), decided they would subvert our election processes with private money, drop boxes, illegal use of the indefinitely confined provision and elimination of special voting deputies,” she continued. Brandtjen added that those factors have made it impossible to know the true outcome of the election.
Ramthun, who put forward a resolution to reclaim Wisconsin’s 10 electors in January, shares Brandtjen’s argument. Though the resolution ultimately failed, Ramthun reintroduced it earlier this month following the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling that the use of ballot drop boxes in the state is illegal now and was during the 2020 election.
“My continued and unwavering efforts to seek closure of, by, and for the people regarding the 2020 election, was once again vindicated now that the Supreme Court has confirmed the use of ballot drop boxes in Wisconsin were illegal in 2020,” Ramthun said in a July 12 press release.
Noting that drop boxes were widely used in the election, Ramthun said: “The ballots placed in those illegal drop boxes are null and void. Since there are no clear chain of custody records to allow for the separation of legal and illegal ballots statewide, the true determination of who won the November 2020 presidential election is impossible.”
While detractors have repeatedly claimed that decertification of the election is not possible, Brandtjen said that such an impossibility would mean that there are no repercussions for cheating in an election.
“How many more times do we need to endure this election injustice?” she asked. “I will join Rep Ramthun’s call for decertification, as I see no other means of justice for Wisconsin voters.”
Weighing in on Twitter, Arizona congressional candidate Josh Barnett said he agreed with the reasoning put forth by Ramthun and Brandtjen.
“I’ve been teaching/preaching from day 1 that we nullify based on maladministration,” Barnett said.
While it remains to be seen whether Ramthun’s revised resolution will be received differently this time, it is clear that dissatisfaction with the 2020 election results remains for many around the country. And whether possible or impossible, calls for a resolution do not appear to be ending any time soon.
