President Trump reminded the world that he strongly stands with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday, restating his powerful endorsement for the leader’s reelection this year.
“President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, ‘Tropical Trump’ as he is affectionally called, has done a GREAT job for the wonderful people of Brazil,” Trump stated on Truth Social. “When I was President of the U.S., there was no other country leader who called me more than Jair seeking Tariff & Tax cuts, Trade Renegotiations, Strengthened Drug & Border Policies (to put the ‘bad guys’ in jail!), Military Help, & more.”
Bolsonaro is incredibly popular in his home country of Brazil, and over the weekend, more than one million people rallied in the streets to support his reelection. Jaw-dropping videos on social media showed crowds stretching farther than the eye could see.
“President Bolsonaro loves Brazil beyond all else,” Trump continued. “He is a wonderful man, and has my Complete & Total Endorsement!”
In October 2021, Trump initially endorsed Bolsonaro’s upcoming reelection bid, stating that the two had “become great friends over the past few years.” He added, “He fights hard for, and loves, the people of Brazil – just like I do for the people of the United States.”
Bolsonaro has additionally been an outspoken proponent of medical freedom. In 2021, the Brazilian president warned against the concept of vaccine passports. “Guys,” he stated, “we either have freedom or we don’t…And the story says: that anyone who gives up a part of their freedom for security, ends up without freedom and without security.”
Furthermore, Bolsonaro has historically positioned himself as a force of opposition against coronavirus-related tyranny, earning him the respect of the freedom-loving Brazilian people. In 2018’s Brazilian election, he was stabbed, and in 2022, he was hospitalized for a time while recovering from abdominal issues related to that initial injury, per Fox News.
