President Donald Trump shared his support for former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s run for governor of Ohio.
Trump shared the endorsement in a post to Truth Social on Monday following Ramaswamy’s official announcement.
“VIVEK RAMASWAMY is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio. I know him well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL. He’s Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country,” Trump wrote.
“He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!” he added.
Ramaswamy, 39, made the news official during an event in his hometown of Cincinnati, saying the state’s “best days are still yet ahead.”
“I will lead Ohio to become the state of excellence in America,” Ramaswamy told supporters. “Think that sounds unrealistic? It’s not. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that Ohio was that state. Today, young people on the internet make fun of something by saying ‘that’s so Ohio.’ But less than a century ago, people weren’t making fun of Ohio, they were aspiring to be Ohio.”
Ramaswamy originally ran against Trump in the 2024 presidential election, quickly excelling in polls through a massive campaign blitz involving numerous high-profile interviews. He exited the race after a fourth-place finish in Iowa and backed Trump’s run.
The Ohio entrepreneur was later announced as a partner with Elon Musk to lead DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement,” Trump wrote in December.
“Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of ‘DOGE’ for a long time,” he went on, describing how this new department will offer advice from outside of the government and work with the Trump administration to “drive large scale structural reform.”
He soon departed the unofficial role as speculation grew over his plans to run for governor in Ohio. Ramaswamy will run to replace current GOP Gov. Mike DeWine, who is term-limited and is not running again.
