President Trump has officially filed his response to federal prosecutor Jack Smith’s request that he should be slapped with a “protective order” to limit the sharing of “discovery materials” as the case against Trump is ongoing in Washington, D.C.
As reported by RSBN, the protective order request came after the president published a statement on Truth Social last week that read, “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’LL COME AFTER YOU!”
Trump’s legal response argued that the special counsel’s request for a protective order is “overbroad” and seeks to restrict the president’s First Amendment rights.
“Worse, it does so against its administration’s primary political opponent, during an election season in which the administration, prominent party members, and media allies have campaigned on the indictment and proliferated its false allegations,” the document stated.
On Monday morning, President Trump explained on Truth Social that he shouldn’t be capped with a protective order because it would violate his right to free speech.
Instead, he argued, “Deranged Jack Smith and the Department of Injustice should, however, because they are illegally ‘leaking’ all over the place!”
Trump’s response additionally utilized examples from the mainstream media that harped on the president’s third recent indictment, accusing Joe Biden of capitalizing on it and further alleging that the Biden DOJ had purposely waited until the election cycle to bring this indictment against Trump.
Per their statement, “Against this backdrop, the government requests the Court assume role of censor and impose content-based regulations on President Trump’s political speech that would forbid him from publicly discussing or disclosing all non-public documents produced by the government, including both purportedly sensitive materials… And non-sensitive, potentially exculpatory documents…”
