President Trump on Thursday foreshadowed a massive announcement that would have historic ramifications, but in true Trump fashion, he kept the nature of the announcement a secret, instead opting to keep the press on pins and needles until the time is right.
During a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the president teased big news ahead of his first trip abroad since taking office, other than attending the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome in April.
He said, “We’ll have, maybe before we’re going to the Middle East and Saudi Arabia…I think before then, we’re going to have a very, very big announcement. Like, as big as it gets.”
The president explained that it was “really, really positive” and said the timeline for announcing this mysterious development was anytime between Thursday to Monday before he leaves on his trip to the Middle East, which will include visits to the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
“It will be one of the most important announcements that have been made in many years about a certain subject,” he said.
It’s impossible to say what the president’s announcement may be about, but given that it will be revealed just before his trip to the Middle East, it seems probable that it will center on that region of the world – although President Trump may have something else entirely in mind.
Following the president’s statement about this upcoming announcement, PM Carney remarked, “I’m on the edge of my seat!”
Trump and Carney’s meeting was pleasant, even when the president unflinchingly spoke about wanting to acquire Canada as U.S. territory or a state in front of the press. “Never say never,” he remarked.
Carney appeared to balk, noting, “There are some places that are never for sale.”
The president remained pleasantly optimistic, adding that Canada would benefit greatly by assimilating into the United States.
“Time will tell, it’s only time,” Trump said.
