President Donald Trump took a steely and unflinching approach to dealing with rising crime in California and beyond, declaring on Friday in a speech in Anaheim at the GOP Fall Convention that sometimes, when violent criminals engage in robbing a store, they “should expect to be SHOT.”
He explained to a cheering crowd, “Very simply, if you rob a store, you can expect to be SHOT as you’re leaving that store. SHOT.”
The president was referring to the rampant rash of smash-and-grab theft in cities like San Francisco, where groups of criminals will sweep into a retail store, steal as much as they can, and then run off with the goods.
Trump noted that if law enforcement is given authority again, “Everything will immediately stop…you know, our law enforcement is great, but they’re not allowed to DO anything!”
The president added, “The word that they SHOOT YOU will get out within minutes and our nation in ONE DAY will be an entirely different place.”
The audience in Anaheim was extremely receptive to Trump’s remarks, cheering as he suggested harsher penalties for looters and thieves.
He continued, “There must be retribution of theft and destruction and the ruination of our country…That means in some cases, shoot them…this will STOP immediately.”
