President Trump addressed the ongoing struggle in the House of Representatives that has yet failed to produce enough votes to elect a new Speaker, maintaining an optimistic attitude despite the political chaos in Washington, D.C.
Trump stated on Truth Social:
“I actually think that a big Republican VICTORY today, after going through numerous Roll Calls that failed to produce a Speaker of the House, has made the position & process of getting to be Speaker BIGGER & MORE IMPORTANT than if it were done in the more traditional way, much like me again becoming President after having won big in 2016, gotten many Millions of MORE VOTES in 2020 but ‘supposedly’ not winning (BIG LIE!), & then winning again in 2024. It will be BIGGER than the traditional way!”
On Thursday, the House began its third straight day of attempting to vote for a Speaker, with nominated Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy having lost the first six ballots. Per Just the News, a coalition of 20 conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus, including Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., and Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., have resolutely opposed McCarthy’s confirmation by refusing to vote for him.
As reported by RSBN, Rep. Gaetz took a swing at McCarthy this week in a cutting remark, “He’s a desperate guy whose vote share is dropping with every subsequent vote. And I’m ready to vote all night, all week, all month, and never for that person.”
However, Trump previously advised House Republicans to “TAKE THE VICTORY AND RUN!!!”
The president has also highlighted the importance of GOP unity on the issue of electing a House Speaker, stating on Wednesday that Republican representatives needed to “VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA…DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE – YOU DESERVE IT.”
Trump added that McCarthy would “do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!”
