Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced his candidacy just a few days ago, but so far, the latest GOP 2024 primary political polls are reflecting a solid and powerful lead for President Donald Trump.
A new Fox News poll taken May 19-22 revealed that among 2024 GOP presidential primary voters, President Trump was favored as the nominee with 53 percent of support, while Gov. DeSantis won 20 percent of support.
Undeclared and potential candidate former Vice President Mike Pence accrued just 5 percent of support, while declared candidate and former Republican South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley managed to net 4 percent.
Trump has also been holding remarkably big leads among Republican voters in various battleground states across the country. A fresh poll from National Research found that the 45th president held a 25-point lead over DeSantis for the 2024 nomination in South Carolina.
In Nevada, President Trump snagged a 30-point lead for the presidential nomination with 51 percent of voter support in a VoteTXT/Newsmakers survey. In the same poll, DeSantis won 21 percent support.
Even a mainstream poll from CNN found that among GOP voters, Trump held 53 percent of support for the 2024 nomination against DeSantis’s 26 percent.
Gov. DeSantis broke with tradition and announced his 2024 candidacy during an online Twitter Spaces event that was hosted by SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The governor is poised to kick off a busy schedule of campaigning in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina as he attempts to close the sizeable gap between himself and the leader of the MAGA movement.
Via a campaign statement, DeSantis campaign manager Generra Peck said, “We are laser-focused on taking Governor DeSantis’ forward-thinking message for restoring America to every potential voter in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.”
According to the DeSantis campaign, the governor is scheduled to hold an official campaign kickoff in Des Moines, Iowa, on May 30.
