President Donald Trump displayed confidence surrounding the notion that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) may challenge him for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
“If I faced him, I’d beat him like I would beat everyone else,” Trump noted in an interview with Yahoo Finance Live.
Polls have confirmed this claim, with President Trump maintaining a significant lead against other possible Republican candidates including Gov. DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence.
The 45th president also noted that he does not see DeSantis actually challenging him for the nomination.
“I think most people would drop out, I think he would drop out,” he said.
DeSantis himself has called the rumors that he may seek a 2024 GOP nomination “purely manufactured” and “nonsense,” as he will be seeking re-election in 2022 for Florida governor, Florida Politics reported.
Former Congressman and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows also told the Washington Examiner that he does not believe DeSantis would run against Trump should he enter the 2024 race.
“You know, I think Ron DeSantis is identified across the country now for the courage that he shows for conservative solutions,” Meadows said, “and he would be the first to say that if President Trump gets in, that he would win the nomination and would clear the field.”
