The Trump Labor Department is bringing a renewed focus to uplifting faith-based organizations and safeguarding against religious discrimination. Under President Trump, the Department is prioritizing religious liberty by encouraging faith organizations to apply for federal grants. According to The Daily Wire, the Trump Labor Department will seek to restore opportunities to faith-based organizations that had declined under the Biden administration due to its focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies.
Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer told The Daily Wire the push to restore these opportunities for faith-based organizations is part of the administration’s overall focus on faith and religious freedom. The Labor Department processes a wide range of grants for training, development and workplace safety. The Trump administration aims to establish protections for religious liberty and foster stronger connections with faith-based institutions nationwide.
The mission of the Labor Department is an extension of President Trump’s previously stated commitment to restoring faith in American society and in the executive branch. In February, President Trump signed the Establishment of the White House Faith Office executive order.
The order stated the importance of faith organizations in society, noting that such organizations had the ability to “lift people up, keep families strong, and solve problems at the local level.” The order also stressed the administration’s goal of allowing faith-based organizations to pursue federal grants and funding.
According to The Daily Wire, the Biden administration prioritized DEI policies over the role of the faith office in the administration. The Trump administration’s goal is to place a renewed emphasis on the faith office and promote the role of faith organizations in daily American life, including through labor and employment.
According to Sec. Chavez-DeRemer, the Trump Labor Department is committed to ensuring a “level playing field” for faith organizations in the federal grant application process, and to ensuring religious institutions do not face discrimination due to their beliefs.
