President Trump made a significant endorsement in New Mexico this week, throwing his support behind the state’s conservative gubernatorial nominee, Mark Ronchetti.

“New Mexico has an absolutely terrible Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “She is WEAK on Crime, bad on the Border where illegal aliens are pouring into our Country at record numbers, & has almost no support from Law Enforcement, which fully understands what a disaster she has been.”

Ronchetti also received support earlier this year from Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., who campaigned for the GOP candidate in August as a part of Turning Point Action’s “Unite and Win” rallies in August.

Trump continued in his statement on Truth Social, “Also, Drugs & Human Trafficking are OUT OF CONTROL. The good news is that Republican Nominee Mark Ronchetti is outstanding. He will be tough & smart on Crime, the Border & everything else. Mark [h]as my Total Endorsement!”

Ronchetti has a background working for Albuquerque’s CBS and FOX affiliates as a Chief Meteorologist, according to his website. Ronchetti has also taken a hardline stance against rising crime in New Mexico, per his official campaign bio:

“Mark is running for Governor because he believes the people of New Mexico are ready for change. Mediocrity is no longer an option. For too long, the leaders in this state haven’t taken crime seriously. Mark will ensure a justice system that works and prioritizes law-abiding citizens over criminals. He will give police officers every tool they need to keep the people of New Mexico safe.”

Based on recent polling, the race in New Mexico is tight as Ronchetti is facing down incumbent Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. According to a new poll from Emerson College, Ronchetti is within striking distance of Grisham, with a meager two-point spread between the respective nominees.
