President Donald Trump vowed to end taxes on overtime pay to provide more income for hard-working Americans.
Trump revealed the new policy plan during his campaign rally in Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday.
“Today, I’m also announcing that as part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime,” he announced.
“You know what that means? Think of that. That gives people more of an incentive to work. It gives the companies a lot. It’s a lot easier to get the people,” Trump continued.
Trump noted that economists he spoke with predicted that the move would be a powerful change for American workers.
“No taxes on overtime! The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country, and for too long no one in Washington has been looking out for them,” he later stated.
The 45th president explained that the policy move would be of benefit to several fields, including police officers, truck drivers and nurses.
“Those are the people. They really work. They’re police officers, nurses, factory workers, construction workers, truck drivers, and machine operators. It’s time for the working man and woman to finally catch a break, and that’s what we’re doing because this is a good one,” he said.
“I think it’s going to be great for the country,” Trump concluded.
The policy move adds to Trump’s recent commitments of no taxes on tips and no taxes on social security.
The 45th president also discussed plans for the construction of a missile defense system during his Tucson event, adding that much of the work will be completed in Arizona.
“Ronald Reagan wanted to do it many years ago, but we didn’t,” Trump said. “Honestly, we were lucky. We didn’t because we didn’t have the technology we do now. You see in Israel how it works, and we’re going to have the biggest and the best … and a lot of it’s going to be made in a place called Arizona. Is that okay?”
The audience received the news with great applause. The defense system has been pitched as operating similar to Israel’s Iron Dome which has been frequently used in recent months to protect its citizens against rocket attacks from Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists.
