President Trump met with members of his Cabinet on Wednesday and praised Elon Musk for his work with the Department of Government Efficiency.

Trump also told Musk he was invited to stay as long as he wanted to continue his work within the government.

Trump’s comments follow Musk’s announcement earlier in the month that he would be reducing his time with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to focus on running Tesla. Trump acknowledged the time and effort Musk had put into assisting the administration.

“You really have sacrificed a lot,” Trump said. “You’ve been treated very unfairly … the vast majority of people in this country really respect and appreciate you, and this whole room can say that very strongly. You’ve really been a tremendous help.”

Musk responded by praising the Trump administration for its accomplishments and its focus on fulfilling the mandate given by American voters on key issues, such as immigration and common-sense government reform.

“A tremendous amount has been accomplished in the first 100 days,” Musk said. “As everyone has said, it’s more than has been accomplished in any administration before, ever, period. So this portends very well for what happens for the rest of the administration.”

Musk said his time with DOGE would be scaled back significantly starting in May, which also marks the end of his status as a special government employee. However, Musk indicated that he would continue to be involved in some capacity to make sure the fraud and abuse in government spending he has identified remain under control.

Musk thanked the members of Trump’s cabinet and expressed his continued optimism for the administration’s success, saying he believed it could be the greatest since the country’s founding.
