President Trump is advocating for energy pipelines as a way to reduce costs for families in New York and New England. In a Truth Social post on Thursday, Trump encouraged the state of New York to back the measure instead of continuing to block it.

“If New York, Connecticut, and New England had their Pipelines, savings from Heating alone would go down $2,300 per family — When you add Air Conditioning, and other things, you would have a $5,000 savings per family,” Trump said.

Trump stressed that New York is the only state resisting the measure, and emphasized that the pipeline would result in major savings for residents of the state.

“All we need is a simple approval from New York. Every other State in New England, plus Connecticut, wants this, in order to help the Environment, and save BIG money,” Trump said. “We only need the final approval from New York State, whose people all want it.”

Trump concluded by saying the use of federal authority would be the next course of action if New York state continues to block the pipeline.

“Otherwise, we’ll have to use other authorities. New York State has held up this project for many years, but we won’t let that happen any longer. We will use federal approval!” Trump said.

Trump is set to meet with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) at the White House on Friday. Trump and Hochul will discuss issues specific to the state of New York, including the pipeline and the recently contested issue of congestion pricing within Manhattan.

Trump expressed hopes that he and Hochul can reach an agreement on the issue. As he prepares to meet Hochul, Trump said he is willing to use federal authority to enact the pipeline if necessary, but does not think it will come to that. “If we have to, we will, but I don’t think we’ll have to,” Trump said.
