President Donald Trump blasted the Jan. 6 Committee Sunday for announcing criminal referrals after a one-sided political investigation into the events that followed the 2020 presidential election, particularly the riot on Capitol Hill.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “HOW CAN THE JANUARY 6TH UNSELECT COMMITTEE MAKE CRIMINAL REFERRALS WHEN THEY HAVE’NT SPOKEN ABOUT, OR STUDIED, THOSE THAT RIGGED THE 2020 ELECTION, THE TROOPS NOT BEING BROUGHT IN BY PELOSI, OR NOW, THE ELECTION FRAUD DETERMINATIVELY REVEALED BY TWITTER? THESE ARE THE REAL CRIMINALS!!!”
Trump’s statement comes in response to the Jan. 6 Committee announcing that they are considering criminal referrals for Trump, former Department of Justice officials John Eastman and Jeffery Clark, former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, according to The Hill.
Attempting to justify recommendations to launch criminal investigations or charges against the 45th president and his allies, Jan. 6 Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., recently said, “I think the more we looked at the body of evidence that we had collected, we just felt that while we’re not in the business of investigating people for criminal activities, we just couldn’t overlook some of them.”
Trump has repeatedly challenged the Jan. 6 Committee to show transparency and conduct an accurate investigation into the events that led to the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot; however, the committee has not examined the allegations of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election or the fact that Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., refused additional security troops.
Trump’s Sunday statement also called out the Jan. 6 Committee for failing to consider the additional election fraud that has been recently revealed by Elon Musk on Twitter. With the release of the “Twitter Files,” the evidence has shown that Big Tech colluded with the Democrats to help Joe Biden win the 2020 presidential election by censoring Trump and working in conjunction with Biden’s campaign and federal agencies.
As Trump pointed out, the Jan. 6 Committee should carefully consider all of the evidence before making criminal referrals to the Department of Justice. Otherwise, the referrals will be perceived as another “political witch hunt” into Trump and the MAGA movement.
