President Donald J. Trump issued a thoughtful statement Monday morning in response to the tragic attack that occurred in Waukesha, Wis. on Sunday night which injured 40 people, among them parents and children, and left five dead.
“The whole world is watching the tragedy which just took place in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it is devastating, horrible, and very very sick!” Trump began. “My heart goes out to the people of this great, beautiful, and hardworking community.”
After offering his sympathies to the small Wisconsin city, the 45th president called for answers.
“We must find the answers to this terrible crime, and stop these violent and depraved acts from happening again,” he continued. “I am with you, Waukesha, and always will be!”
In a small town just hours from Kenosha, the disaster turned out to be a tragic turn of events to what was supposed to be an uplifting Christmas parade amid already challenging times for many.
The Waukesha Police Department has taken a person of interest, who is believed to be Darrell E. Brooks, 39, into custody, after a suspect plowed through the crowds full of families and children with his red Ford Escape SUV on Sunday night, injuring dozens. However, the police have not officially named a suspect. As of Monday morning, the identities of those who were injured and killed in the Christmas parade attack have not yet been confirmed.
Brooks, who matches the description of eyewitness accounts and is the owner of the red SUV, has a lengthy criminal history and had just recently been released from incarceration, exactly two days prior to the incident. Residents of the quiet community were left shaken following the horrific tragedy as it sent shockwaves through the nation.
Although the incident occurred just two days after the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict was released in Kenosha, it is still unknown if there is any correlation.
