President Donald Trump said he would declassify the investigation into the assassination attempt against him if elected during an interview on Monday.

Trump shared the response during an interview he and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance conducted on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

“There should be nothing to hide here,” Trump said. “But I think frankly, many things are known right now. But some of the things that are known are bad.”

“How did somebody get on that roof and why wasn’t he reported?” Trump asked.

“Because people saw he was on the roof. You had Trumpers screaming. The woman in the red shirt, she was screaming, ‘There’s a man on the roof.’ And other people are [saying], ‘There is a man on the roof with a gun,’” he continued.

“And that was quite a bit before I walked onto the stage. So you would’ve thought somebody would’ve done something about it,” Trump said.

The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a counter-sniper shortly following the assassination attempt.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle appeared before a congressional committee on Monday to respond to the lapses in security that led to the assassination attempt from a rooftop near Trump’s Pennsylvania rally.

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, R-Kentucky, and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, sent a letter to Cheatle demanding her resignation following the shooting. In addition to Trump’s ear being grazed by a bullet, one victim died and two others were seriously wounded.

“On July 13, 2024, the United States Secret Service under your leadership failed to protect former President Donald Trump from an assassination attempt that took the life of Corey Comperatore and seriously injured at least two other people,” the lawmakers wrote.

“Today, you failed to provide answers to basic questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures. […] We call on you to resign as Director as a first step to allowing new leadership to swiftly address this crisis and rebuild the trust of a truly concerned Congress and the American people,” the lawmakers continued.
