President Trump made clear on Friday morning that his economic policy was here to stay after calls to end Wednesday’s “LIBERATION DAY” tariffs on U.S. trade partners.
In a Truth Social post, the 47th president wrote, “TO THE MANY INVESTORS COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES AND INVESTING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY, MY POLICIES WILL NEVER CHANGE. THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GET RICH, RICHER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!”
Trump’s declaration of a 10 percent baseline tax on all imports to the United States and other higher tariffs against some nations that have trade surpluses with the United States is part of his plan to make America wealthy again.
In another Truth Social post, Trump addressed China’s response to the new tariffs. “CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG, THEY PANICKED – THE ONE THING THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO!”
Trump ran his campaign promising to liberate the United States from its dependence on overseas manufacturers, particularly those supplying materials critical to national security.
He warned of potential shakiness in the beginning, but has remained transparent throughout the reaction from the markets.
“It is what is expected,” he remarked earlier this week. On Thursday, he likened “LIBERATION DAY” to a medical procedure. “THE OPERATION IS OVER! THE PATIENT LIVED, AND IS HEALING. THE PROGNOSIS IS THAT THE PATIENT WILL BE FAR STRONGER, BIGGER, BETTER, AND MORE RESILIENT THAN EVER BEFORE. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
Many Republicans in Congress have expressed support for the new tariffs.
During a Fox News interview, Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy made clear that he supports Trump’s economic policies.
“The President’s long-term goal is laudable—I support it. It’s not complicated. America is rich. We buy a lot of stuff. Every business in the world wants to sell to us. The President is saying to those businesses in other countries, ‘If you want to sell to us and take our money, then you need to move your business to America and hire our people.’ Now who can be against that?” Kennedy remarked.
Wyoming Senator John Barrasso wrote on X, “President Trump is acting boldly to put America first. America needs fair and free trade. We can’t allow other countries to keep abusing our workers and job creators. It’s time we had a level playing field. I applaud President Trump’s 100% commitment to ‘Made in America.’”
Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., told Fox Business, “For DECADES, countries–both friend and foe alike–have built their economies on the back of the US economy.”
