President Donald Trump took a swing at the mainstream narrative that he has spent copious amounts of time formulating a new nickname for his potential GOP presidential primary rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., enlightening Americans on Truth Social that the reports were “100% wrong.”
“All of the Fake News is reporting that I spend large amounts of my time coming up with a good ‘nickname’ for Ron DeSanctimonious, who is obviously going to give the presidential ‘thing’ a shot,” he wrote.
“They are all 100% wrong, I don’t even think about it – A very unimportant subject to me!!!” he added.
Trump’s comments come shortly after the New York Times published an article claiming that he was trying out new nicknames for DeSantis since humorously dubbing the Republican leader “Ron DeSanctimonious” shortly after the 2022 midterm elections.
The publication recently promulgated the idea that Trump had been calling DeSantis “Meatball Ron” or “Shutdown Ron” in “casual conversations.” However, the president put a swift end to those stories with his rebuttal posted on Truth Social.
DeSantis has not yet officially announced a 2024 presidential bid, but he has not denied that he will run, either.
Via RSBN, in early February, Trump took aim at DeSantis’s failure to maintain momentum in primary polling, declaring, “The revelations about Ron DeSanctimonious doing FAR WORSE than many other Republican governors, including that he unapologetically shut down Florida and its beaches, was interesting, indeed. DJT leading BIG!!!”
The president also took aim at DeSantis’s political donors in January, urging American voters to check the past of the Florida governor ahead of what is sure to be a heated political primary battle if DeSantis does indeed run for president in 2024.
“Ron DeSanctimonious, who I made Governor in BOTH the Primary & the General, is also a Globalist, & so are his donors,” Trump wrote previously on Truth Social. “Jeb ‘Low Energy’ Bush was next to him last week. Check PAST!”
A new survey from Premise Data’s Political Sentiment Tracker recently found that a whopping 57 percent of voters surveyed preferred President Donald Trump as the 2024 presidential primary nominee, compared to DeSantis, who garnered just 28 percent in that same survey.
