President Donald Trump took credit Monday for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., having disastrous poll numbers in recent months.

Trump shared the results of a Morning Consult Poll on Truth Social, revealing that McConnell was the most unpopular senator in the United States during the second quarter of 2022. The survey indicated McConnell’s numbers were “slightly worse than his standing in the first quarter.”

The poll showed that 62 percent of Kentucky voters disapproved of McConnell’s job performance during the second quarter, while only 31 percent approved of his performance.

In response to these devastating poll numbers for the Senate minority leader, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “See what I can do to people? This was an easy one!”

The 45th president has long criticized McConnell after watching him cave to the left on the 2020 election, lose the majority in the Senate, and enable Democrats to advance multi-trillion dollar legislative packages.

Earlier this year, Trump explained his frustration with the senator, saying, “As far as Mitch McConnell, I am not a fan and there’s been no harsher critic than me.”

Due to McConnell’s recent political choices, Trump has also claimed that the Republican Party needs new leadership in the Senate. “He has been absolutely terrible and very bad for the GOP.” Trump said. “The sooner he leaves ‘Leadership,’ the better off the Republican Party will be.”

McConnell has indicated that he believes Trump is “practically and morally responsible for provoking the events” of Jan. 6, which has resulted in a further disagreement between the two Republican leaders.

However, while the 45th president’s popularity remains strong amid the Jan. 6 Committee’s investigation, the Senate minority leader’s popularity continues to decline.
