President Donald Trump on Tuesday said the ceasefire between Israel and Iran was still in effect, but not before blasting both countries for faltering on the agreement just a few hours after its announcement.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting for so long and so hard, that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing – do you understand that?” he told the press.
While departing for Marine One at the White House, Trump hotly criticized both Middle Eastern countries following reports that Israel had allegedly fired on Iran shortly after the ceasefire was announced, claiming Iran had fired first, per the Associated Press.
“Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and dropped the load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before. The biggest load that I’ve seen. I’m not happy with Israel,” he said.
Trump noted that he was unhappy with Iran, as well, but emphasized that he was “really unhappy” with Israel.
Later, the president took to Truth Social, clarifying the status of the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which appeared rocky Tuesday morning following the nations’ saber rattling.
His statement:
“ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES[.]”
It appears that, despite Israel and Iran’s disingenuous beginnings to the ceasefire agreement, President Trump is holding both nations accountable for maintaining the agreement.
On Tuesday, Trump headed to a NATO Summit in the Netherlands, where he wrote on Truth Social that he hoped the experience would be “much calmer” than the problems going on in the Middle East.
“Heading to NATO where, at worst, it will be a much calmer period than what I just went through with Israel and Iran,” he wrote.
