President Donald Trump issued a statement Wednesday, celebrating his reinstatement on Facebook and touting the success of Truth Social.

In a post on the company’s website, Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, explained that the company would be “ending the suspension” of the 45th president’s Facebook and Instagram accounts “in the coming weeks.” He explained that Meta has “put new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.” While Clegg acknowledged that the company’s decision would be “criticized,” he suggested, “the public should be able to hear what politicians are saying so they can make informed choices.”

Trump’s reinstatement on Facebook and Instagram will come after two years of banishment for his alleged role in the events of the Jan. 6 Capitol demonstrations.

In addition to the company’s website statements, a Meta executive appeared on Fox News Wednesday, telling host Bret Baier that Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts would be reinstated. “We’re confirming that if he wants to, in the coming weeks, he can use Facebook and Instagram again,” the executive said. “Of course, there are guardrails. There are rules. He’s got to play by the rules.”

Following Meta’s announcement, the 45th president shared the news on Truth Social, where he reminded Americans that the removal of his Facebook and Instagram accounts should not have happened.

“FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since ‘deplatforming’ your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account,” he said. “Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution!”

In the two years following his removal from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the 45th president has been vocal about the need for social media platforms that do not censor Americans’ freedom of speech. As a result, Trump launched Truth Social, which has recently been reaching “record levels of activity” as Americans transition to social media platforms that encourage free speech.

As part of his post on Wednesday, Trump stated, “THANK YOU TO TRUTH SOCIAL FOR DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB. YOUR GROWTH IS OUTSTANDING, AND FUTURE UNLIMITED!!!

Meta’s decision to reinstate Trump’s social media accounts comes two months after Twitter owner Elon Musk’s decision to reinstate the 45th president’s account after letting Twitter users vote in a poll to determine whether or not to do so.
