President Donald Trump delivered another rebuke of Mitch McConnell Monday due to his continued opposition of certain MAGA Republican candidates and policies.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Just read in, of all places, The New York Times, that the Broken Old Crow, Mitch McConnell, has lost every single time to me in his cherished Senate races.”
“I am 42-0 over the last two cycles,” Trump added. The 45th president also explained he has, “never even tried to run up the score by opposing Todd Young of Indiana, or John Thune of South Dakota – They may be RINO’s, and puppets of Mitch, but they are just fine.”
Trump’s endorsement record over the past two election cycles has been unbelievably successful, with his support leading to massive Republican victories nationwide. Noting this, Trump argued that McConnell has not had the same record of successful endorsements.
Trump also wrote, “Do I also get credit for endorsing Mitch himself, who was heading for a landslide LOSS until he begged me to Endorse him. Sadly, I did!”
While Trump endorsed McConnell’s last campaign for Senate, which was a much closer race than anticipated, he has repeatedly expressed his regret for supporting the “Broken Old Crow.”
Despite facing backlash from the 45th president and the MAGA movement for his ineffective leadership of the Senate Republican minority, McConnell countered with “I have the votes” to potentially become the Senate majority leader in the next term.
While McConnell may be confident that the Republican Party will support his continued leadership, Trump’s latest comments serve as a reminder that the 45th president continues to dominate the Republican Party, regardless of what McConnell believes.
