President Donald Trump called attention to New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s loss, saying she should “keep trying.”

The satirical words came after Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, failed in her effort to obtain the highest Democratic seat on the House Oversight Committee.

“Really too bad that AOC lost the Battle for the Leadership Seat in the Democrat Party. She should keep trying. Someday, she will be successful!” he wrote.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to Trump’s jab in a post on X later on Wednesday.

“Damn you know it’s bad when even Trump is feeling bad for me,” she wrote.

Her attempt to join the committee was lost to Virginia Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly. Connolly has served in the committee for 16 years, giving him far more experience in the role.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer recently noted that he welcomed Ocasio-Cortez seeking a role with the group.

“I’m a big AOC fan,” Comer said on CNN. “Obviously, I don’t agree with very much of her policy, but I think she’s a good person, I think she’s very well spoken.”

“If it’s AOC, I think we’ll have a good working relationship,” Comer reiterated. “We’ll obviously have a lot of differences on policy, but I think she’s a good, well-spoken person for the Democrats to serve in that position.”

Ocasio-Cortez currently serves as the vice-ranking member of the committee. House Oversight has held special attention during the Biden administration, including a major role in investigating President Joe Biden’s classified documents and Hunter Biden’s laptop.

During the recent presidential campaign, Comer also led the committee to launch an investigation into Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in response to his alleged “longstanding connections” to China and entities linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

In a post on X, the Oversight Committee wrote, “Chairman James Comer has launched an investigation into Minnesota Governor Timothy Walz, Kamala Harris’s recently announced vice-presidential running mate, following reports detailing the Governor’s longstanding connections to Chinese Communist Party entities and officials.”

The committee further explained, “Mr. Walz has visited China 30 times, served as a fellow at a Chinese institution that maintains a devotion to the CCP, and spoke alongside the President of a Chinese organization the State Department exposed as a CCP effort to influence and co-opt local leaders.”
