New York Attorney General Letitia James hasn’t won any popularity points with the people of New York City in the wake of the over-the-top civil fraud ruling against Donald Trump last month.

During a New York firefighter’s ceremony on Thursday, James took the podium to deliver remarks. She was loudly booed as she stepped onstage. Following the boos, the audience proceeded to chant, “TRUMP, TRUMP, TRUMP!”

James attempted to brush off the negative reception by commenting, “Oh, come on, we’re in a house of God. First, um…simmer down…”

In February, the civil fraud suit against Trump, which was spearheaded by James, hefted a total $454 million judgement upon the president and inflicted a three-year-ban on his involvement as a senior officer in a New York real estate business – a ban that extended to his sons, as well.

In late February, President Trump strongly appealed the ruling. Per the Associated Press, the notices of appeal were filed on February 25, arguing that the court should consider whether Judge Arthur Engoron “committed errors of law and/or fact” in his ruling.

AG James’ fervent pursuit of Trump, who built a massive real estate empire in New York spanning a decades-long career, began long before she took office as the state’s attorney general.

James has been documented on tape as promising to “sue him [Trump]” and be “a real pain in the ass.” She also referred to him as an “illegitimate president” and vowed that her personal distaste for Trump was “fueling my soul.”

Watch AG James in her own words:

The civil fraud ruling in New York is one of several legal venues where Trump is doing battle during the 2024 election. He has repeatedly called the courtroom battles “ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”

In the wake of the ruling in February, the president explained that it was “A DARK AND SAD DAY FOR THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IN NEW YORK STATE.”
