President Donald Trump on Thursday called on Middle Eastern nations to join the Abraham Accords following strikes that he said destroyed Iran’s nuclear program.
“Now that the nuclear arsenal being ‘created’ by Iran has been totally OBLITERATED, it is very important to me that all Middle Eastern Countries join the Abraham Accords,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This will insure PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The president has pushed for broader adoption of the Abraham Accords, a diplomatic framework established during his first term that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. The accords marked one of Trump’s most significant foreign policy achievements, but several influential states, such as Saudi Arabia, have yet to sign on.
Trump has framed the accords as a pathway to lasting regional stability, arguing that economic cooperation and diplomatic recognition between Israel and its neighbors would reduce the likelihood of future conflicts.
The call for renewed engagement comes as Israel continues to face international criticism over its occupation of Gaza and ongoing clashes in the region. Trump helped secure a short-lived ceasefire earlier this year, but that agreement quickly collapsed as hostilities resumed.
Trump’s administration is expected to begin outreach to regional leaders in the coming days to encourage broader participation in the Abraham Accords. The president has said he hopes to announce new signatories before the end of the year, framing the effort as a key step toward what he describes as “a safer, more prosperous Middle East.”
Some suggest Azerbaijan as the next to sign, as the nation is expected to formalize a peace agreement on Friday at the White House with Armenia. Azerbaijan has long pursued an independent foreign policy, building a strategic partnership with Israel while maintaining strong ties with the Islamic world.
This careful diplomatic balance makes the question of joining the Abraham Accords a sensitive one. When the accords were signed in 2020, speculation arose that Azerbaijan could be next. Reports indicated that US officials engaged in talks with Baku, but the government avoided public commitments and took a cautious stance.
