President Donald Trump visited Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday to see the devastation of Hurricane Helene first-hand and deliver remarks to the press about his plans to rebuild once he is back in the White House.

The 45th president spoke about the poor response from the Biden-Harris administration in the aftermath of the catastrophic flooding.

“The power of nature. Nothing you can do about it, but you gotta get a little bit better crew in to do a better job than has been done by the White House. It’s been not good. Not good,” Trump said.

He made a promise to North Carolinians: “I will support and totally complete the rebuilding of every region and town and city that was devastated by the hurricane, and I will slash through every bureaucratic barrier that you’re having already.”

He said that he would “personally recruit businesses from all over the world to help restore the prosperity to the region,” making clear that he would use taxation, incentives and tariffs to ensure the plan’s success.

He said the plan would entice people to move back into the state, and that under his leadership, “We’ll stop throwing our money overseas and we’re gonna let our country benefit. We’re gonna put America first. It’s time we put America first. We’ve been helping countries for 50 years. We’ve been helping them for 50 years, never stops. And when we need help from them, they’re not there, so. That’s the way it is.”

Trump delivered a “simple message” for the victims. “I’m with you, and the American people are with you all the way.”

He continued, “We’re gonna continue to be with you, we’ll see what happens with the election. On January 20, you’re gonna have a, I think a new crew coming in to do it properly and help you in a proper manner.”

He discussed the effort of the American people from around the country to bring supplies and conduct rescues, calling their actions “incredible.” He emphasized that “Nothing is more inspiring than to see the American spirit triumph over adversity with the most selfless acts of generosity and love.”
