On Thursday, Trump made a statement about the foreign aid bill that would send money to Israel and Ukraine, weighing in on a controversial piece of legislation that Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., is trying to push to a vote.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Why isn’t Europe giving more money to help Ukraine? Why is it that the United States is over $100 Billion Dollars into the Ukraine War more than Europe, and we have an Ocean between us as separation!”
According to The New York Times, the foreign aid bill is worth $95 billion after the U.S. Senate passed it in February. The bill would also send money to Taiwan. Many Republicans are adamantly opposed to the United States sending more money overseas, especially as the economic situation in America is tepid at best.
President Trump continued, “Why can’t Europe equalize or match the money put in by the United States of America in order to help a Country in desperate need? As everyone agrees, Ukrainian Survival and Strength should be much more important to Europe than to us, but it is also important to us! GET MOVING EUROPE!”
Speaker Johnson’s move to push for a vote on the foreign aid bill puts him in a shaky position amidst Republican opposition to the legislation.
In late March, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., filed a motion to vacate Johnson from the speakership, and on Thursday, she insinuated that Johnson was attempting to change the single-motion motion to vacate rule on the sly in the Rules Committee.
“Mike Johnson owes this conference a meeting, and if he wants to change the motion to vacate, he needs to come before the Republican conference that elected him and tell us of his intentions and tell us what this rule change to the motion to vacate is going to be,” she explained.
Via the NYT, the Speaker may push for a vote on the spending bill as soon as this weekend.
President Trump concluded his statement with a reminder that the mess overseas wouldn’t have been an issue in the first place if he was in the White House.
He said, “In addition, I am the only one who speaks for ‘ME’ and, while it is a total mess caused by Crooked Joe Biden and the Incompetent Democrats, if I were President, this War would have never started!
