President Donald Trump addressed the most recent legal developments that have taken place with Sidney Powell, an attorney who has long been associated with the 2020 presidential election and the allegations of irregularities that arose in its wake.
According to The Epoch Times, Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges in Fulton County, Georgia, in the same case that has also charged President Trump himself, as well as 17 other co-defendants.
Although Powell is often closely associated with Trump, she was not a part of his legal team, the president clarified on Truth Social.
He explained on Sunday, “Sidney Powell was one of millions and millions of people who thought, and in ever increasing numbers still think, correctly, that the 2020 Presidential Election was RIGGED & STOLLEN, AND OUR COUNTRY IS BEING ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED BECAUSE OF IT!!!”
Powell was indicted along with other former and current Trump allies, like attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and Jenna Ellis.
Ellis represented Trump in 2020, and this week, she pleaded guilty in Fulton County as part of a plea deal that will sentence her to five years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and $5,000 in restitution, The New York Times revealed.
In terms of Sidney Powell’s previous legal work, Trump praised her performance in court, noting. “Ms. Powell did a valiant job of representing a very unfairly treated and governmentally abused General Mike Flynn, but to no avail. His prosecution, despite the facts, was ruthless.”
He added that Gen. Flynn was “an innocent man, much like many other innocent people who are being persecuted by this now Fascist government of ours, and I was honored to give him a Full Pardon!”
Last week, Powell took to X to issue a brief statement on her decision to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charges, writing, “Thank you all for your prayers and support which strengthened and encouraged me through this difficult time. I felt your prayers & God’s peace. Now I return to work that is truly important.”
