President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he had withdrawn his endorsement of Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., for Senate after turning “woke” and insisting voters move on from election fraud claims in the 2020 election.
“Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’ despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities,” Trump said via his Save America PAC.
As the 45th president attests, the Alabama Senate hopeful took a 44-point lead in the polls and was “unstoppable.” However, when advised to halt all conversations around the 2020 election, Brooks’ lead faded.
According to Axios, in August, Brooks allegedly told supporters gathered at a Trump rally to put the 2020 election results behind them and “look forward” to 2022 instead. Brooks’ comments were met with boos from the audience.
“When I heard his statement, I said, ‘Mo, you just blew the Election, and there’s nothing you can do about it,’ Trump continued. “Very sad but, since he decided to go in another direction, so have I, and I am hereby withdrawing my Endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate.”
Although Brooks surged in the polls in December following Trump’s endorsement, the congressman is now trailing behind opponents Katie Britt and Mike Durant in the Republican primary.
Without Trump’s endorsement, a key advantage in the midterms, Brooks faces an uphill battle as the congressional race continues.
Nonetheless, Trump ended his statement announcing a new endorsement is on the horizon.
“I don’t think the great people of Alabama will disagree with me. Election Fraud must be captured and stopped, or we won’t have a Country anymore. I will be making a new Endorsement in the near future!”
