Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom (Calif.) made waves this week for his comments made on Fox News. During an interview with Sean Hannity, Newsom, who seems like he could be gearing up to launch a 2024 presidential challenge against Joe Biden, called President Trump’s second indictment and arraignment “sad.”

“It was sad, and I say that as an American,” he told Hannity.

Newsom additionally praised Trump’s handling of the Covid pandemic during his time in the White House, applauding the 45th president for being “incredible” with California through the Covid crisis. “We actually had an incredible relationship during Covid,” he claimed.

Newsom has become infamous over the last few years for pushing ironclad Covid policies in the Golden State, including supporting Covid vaccines in public schools. Recently, Newsom introduced the idea of adding a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would “end” America’s so-called “gun violence crisis.”

The amendment would raise the minimum age of purchasing a firearm to age 21, mandate universal background checks, elongate waiting periods for ALL gun purchases, and ban the purchase of so-called “assault weapons,” per the governor’s office.

In essence, a 28th amendment would overwhelmingly negate the power of the Second Amendment.

Newsom’s praise of Trump has been seen by some as a precursor to what may be a presidential candidacy announcement on the California governor’s part. Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren remarked on Twitter, “I’m gonna say it again, @GavinNewsom will run in 2024. Why else would he agree to sit down with @FoxNews @seanhannity? He’s running. Mark. My. Words.”

Right now, President Trump is handily dominating the 2024 GOP political polling. While Biden has announced his intent to run for reelection, his age, cognitive ability, and physical stamina has come under serious scrutiny in light of his numerous public falls and confusing remarks.

Gov. Newsom’s term as California governor, however, is not set to end until January 2027.
