Election integrity and parental rights issues were on the ballot in Texas during the Tuesday election. Voters passed both initiatives in the state, giving conservatives two huge wins.
According to the Associated Press, voters in Texas approved a new constitutional amendment that requires American citizenship to vote. While it is noted that U.S. citizenship is a current voting requirement, election integrity issues have surfaced regarding illegal immigrants gaining access to ballots.

In 2024, Cofounder and Policy Director, Immigration Accountability Project, Rosemary Jenks, testified on “The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: Noncitizen Voting” before the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government of the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives. She noted that the 1993 National Voter Registration Act, or “Motor Voter Law,” which combined driver’s license registration with voter registration, did not require proof of citizenship to obtain the license or voting access.
Jenks detailed how The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 expanded unverified citizenship status to vote when it required states to merely check the name and address of new voters before adding them to the voter rolls. She explained that simple voter identification requirements, which are not implemented in every state, do not go far enough because “19 states also issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.”
In Illinois, over 155,000 driver’s licenses were issued to illegal immigrants in just five months after the state codified the process of giving illegal immigrants driver’s licenses to “protect noncitizens from discrimination” in 2024, per WWTW. Illinois does not require identification to vote, and it is uncertain whether these illegals were allowed to register to vote under the Motor Voter Law.
But Texas is doing its due diligence to make it clear that illegal immigrants have no right to vote in American elections. Texas voters also passed Proposition 15 to update the parental rights law.

Fox 26 Houston reported that Proposition 15 alters the Texas state constitution to clarify that parents have the right to be the “primary decision makers” for their children.
This is a big win for parents who wish to have a say in whether or not children can be exposed to questionable learning material in schools, like Critical Race Theory or Gender Theory materials, and also affirms that parents are the authority in making medical decisions for their children, like whether or not to allow their children to receive new vaccines and other questionable medical treatment.
Election integrity and parental rights are two of the most important issues of the time. Conservatives in Texas showed up and voted for the policies that keep their state red and free for American citizens.
