The House Oversight Committee plans to meet to mark up the articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
This impeachment process is in response to the current border crisis in Texas, where Mayorkas has failed to do his duty and for defying immigration laws.
RSBN reported on the House’s report titled “Crisis at the Border,” which highlighted the Biden Administration’s failure to secure the border and leaving the U.S. vulnerable.
According to The Hill, after three years of investigation and numerous hearings on the impeachment, the House Oversight Committee is now ready to mark up the articles of impeachment.
In a Wednesday press release, committee chairman Mark Green R-Tenn., explained, “Our thorough and fair investigation exposed Secretary Mayorkas’ abuse of power and refusal to comply with the law. In November, 201 Democrats voted to refer articles of impeachment against the Secretary to our Committee and, having completed impeachment hearings earlier this month, we plan to mark up those articles next week.”
Green adds, “In the Committee’s impeachment hearings, members received testimony from top legal officials that detailed how Secretary Mayorkas has failed to uphold his oath of office, how his actions and decisions rise to the level of impeachable offenses, and how his misconduct is costing states across the country.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., praised the news that her articles of impeachment against the DHS secretary are advancing. She said that since she “forced the first vote in the House to impeach Mayorkas,” the Homeland Security committee “has worked hard to present the facts and evidence.”
The Hill reported that the Department of Homeland Security wrote in a memo, “Instead of working in a bipartisan way to fix our broken immigration laws, the House Majority is wasting time on baseless and pointless political attacks by trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.”
Green explains that the House had passed legislation to secure the border, and there is now only one way to fix this problem, “the final remedy for dealing directly with Secretary Mayorkas’ willful and systemic disregard for the rule of law is impeachment.”
In closing, Green adds, “After three years of this crisis and a year of investigations and proceedings, we must move forward with accountability.”
The markup is set for January 30.
