Senator J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, will introduce himself to the world on Wednesday night during a prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

President Trump and Vance attended the convention each day since it began, but this will be Vance’s first speech since he was named Trump’s running mate.

According to the Associated Press, Vance will highlight his life story, including his tumultuous upbringing, life as a Marine, and collegiate career at one of the nation’s most prestigious Ivy League universities.

Vance’s 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” shot back to the top of the bestseller lists after Trump announced that he had chosen the freshman senator to accompany him in the fight to take back the White House. The film adaptation of the book was number four on Netflix’s list of top-streamed shows as of Wednesday morning, according to a report from CBS.

Like many others, Vance was once critical of President Trump but ultimately saw his commitment to the country and undeniable successes during the first Trump administration. Vance has become one of his most ardent supporters and defenders since his 2022 campaign for the Senate.

Just hours after he found out he would potentially hold the second-highest office in the country, Vance wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Just overwhelmed with gratitude. What an honor it is to run alongside President Donald J. Trump. He delivered peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he’ll do it again. Onward to victory!”
