Law enforcement officials, along with Utah Republican Governor Spencer Cox, provided new details about Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin during a Friday morning press briefing. Kirk, an inspiring, God-fearing patriot who built Turning Point USA into a powerhouse for conservative values, was tragically assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
At the outset, Governor Cox provided details about the inscriptions on the bullet casings found with the rifle, along with Discord messages between the suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson, and his roommate.
Cox read the inscriptions that had been engraved on casings found with the rifle. Inscriptions on the fired casing read, “Notice bulges OwO What’s this?” Inscriptions on the three unfired casings read: “Hey fascist! Catch!” and an up-arrow symbol, a right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols. A second unfired casing read, “O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao,” and a third unfired casing read, “If you read this, you are gay, LMAO.”
Cox said that family members told investigators that Robinson “had become more political in recent years.” The family member recalled a recent family dinner where Robinson mentioned Kirk’s upcoming event in Utah and how they discussed their opposition to Kirk’s viewpoints.
The murderer was turned in by his father through a minister, who was also a family friend, according to officials.
Robinson’s roommate showed authorities multiple Discord messages from the suspect after the shooting, which included details about where he ditched the rifle and that it was wrapped in a towel. According to officials, Robinson appeared to be giving instructions to the roommate to retrieve the gun.
Cox also explained that Robinson arrived on campus wearing a different outfit than the one shown in photos released by the FBI. After climbing on the roof of the building where he allegedly committed the shooting, Robinson changed clothes and then changed back into the original clothes afterward.
The New York Post reported that Robinson’s father called the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and then confronted his son after he came home. Robinson then admitted to killing Kirk, but told his father that he would rather kill himself than turn himself in.
The outlet reported that Robinson’s father persuaded him to speak with their youth minister. The minister called the FBI, and Robinson was taken into custody.
Officials said they would provide more details to the public when possible.
