The White House on Thursday celebrated a big achievement for the Trump administration heading into Labor Day weekend, as travel costs are predicted to be cheaper than they have been in years.
“As Americans make their Labor Day weekend travel plans, they will be able to enjoy five-year low gas prices thanks to President Trump fully unleashing American energy dominance,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a press briefing.
“President Trump ended Joe Biden’s Green New Scam policies and is delivering on his promise to make America affordable again,” she added. “These savings at the pump are giving everyday American families more room in their budgets at the end of each month, which is the exact opposite of what we saw under the previous administration.”
According to Fox Business, the national average price per gallon of gas in America this week is $3.15, making it the “cheapest holiday weekend” since 2020, the outlet said.
The drop in gas prices also coincides with a broader decline in travel costs across various areas. According to Spectrum News 1, domestic flights, hotels, and car rentals have dropped in 2025: round-trip flight costs have dropped six percent, hotel rates have dropped 11 percent, and car rentals are three percent less expensive than in 2024, the agency said.
Leavitt said the “national disgrace” of burdening hardworking men and women of America with heavy taxes and the agendas of “short-sighted globalists” was over.
“American workers are once again being put at the center of national trade policies and the dignity of the American laborer is being defended,” she said.
The press secretary highlighted $10 trillion in new private and foreign investments in the U.S., thanks to President Trump’s leadership, which aim to create “high paying jobs in America.”
She also praised the president’s landmark legislation, the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which was signed into law on July 4. “The average American taxpayer will see a tax cut of more than $4,000,” she said.
