Regularly known for his admiration of history, President Trump has vocally praised Great Britain as an empire, defended the Patriots of the Revolution and the veterans of both world wars, and has often highlighted the achievements of presidents such as Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan.
Yet there is no mistake; President Trump is his own man, exercising his own leadership skills and separating himself as one of the most impactful presidents in United States history.
From his early run in the 2016 campaign to today, his positions have clearly been shaped by a strong sense of patriotism, seeking to ensure that the United States of old is never destroyed.
President Trump’s decisive actions on illegal immigration focus on the necessity for all nations to have a border, which ensures protection for citizens and respect for the nation’s founding principles and sovereignty.
Known as the “America First” president, President Trump’s adherence to such a motto also shapes foreign policy. Not one, but two deadly and devastating wars erupted under the previous administration, showing that adversaries of America and democracy took advantage of a weak presidency, with the invasion of Ukraine and the attack on Israel occurring once he was no longer in office.
Modeling the peace-through-strength position of Reagan, President Trump has made it absolutely clear that he will protect the American people at all costs, from any threat, foreign or domestic. Key examples include the destruction of the Iranian nuclear program and the airstrikes on drug traffickers poisoning Americans.
The president is certainly not an isolationist, but also not one to enter needless conflicts at the cost of American lives. He is strategic, recognizing that he must engage with his adversaries, as avoidance of conflict is often achieved through proper dialogue, as evident in his approach to North Korea and his willingness to engage diplomatically in the Middle East.
However, it is not just Trump’s law-and-order mentality or strong support for both the military and law enforcement that sets him apart. He genuinely believes in freedom and choice. Economic dependence on the state ruins a nation. Trump stands firm in a small-government mindset, being the first president since Reagan to reduce bureaucracy rather than expand it.
President Trump’s nationalist model is that of Theodore Roosevelt, with a patriotism as deep as Reagan’s.
He has played fair and been the subject of numerous legal battles, facing false accusations and untruthful media attacks that continue to be challenged in public opinion and even in courtrooms. His victories continue.
President Trump often warns that radical socialists are steering the modern-day Democratic Party — threats often viewed as exaggerations by his opponents. Yet with recent victories from figures such as Zohran Mamdani and the pressure to cave to the radical wing of the socialist movement in Congress, Trump’s arguments were not exaggerations but realities.
America is the shining city on a hill and the last free democracy, interconnected with patriotism, freedom and liberty.
It is President Trump’s passion for the past and knowledge of history that have enabled him to make some of his toughest decisions. He has seen the great nations of the past yield to liberalism and suffer its consequences. He has not forgotten the uniqueness of original patriotism and has brought back the joy of American freedom more distinctly than any president in recent history.
In remembering history, President Trump is shaping America’s future.
