Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., announced that she will force a vote on the articles of impeachment she brought against Joe Biden earlier this month over his handling of the southern border.
Boebert moved two articles of impeachment through a privileged motion on Tuesday, requiring the House to take action on the measure later this week.
Boebert announced her decision in a tweet on Tuesday, explaining that her effort to impeach Biden would require a vote from every member of the House, putting their decisions to impeach or not on record.
“BREAKING: I am bringing my articles of impeachment against Joe Biden to the House Floor in a privileged motion, meaning that every Member of Congress must vote on holding Joe Biden accountable,” Boebert tweeted on Tuesday.
As previously reported by RSBN, Boebert stated earlier this month her intent to impeach Biden over his handling of the southern border. Boebert filed two articles of impeachment: one for abuse of power, and the other for dereliction of duty.
In the first article, Boebert states that Biden “knowingly presided over an executive branch that has continuously, overtly, and consistently violated Federal immigration law by pursuing an aggressive, open-borders agenda.”
Currently, the southern border between Mexico and the U.S. is facing an influx of immigrants entering the country daily. According to Boebert, approximately 6 million illegal immigrants have entered the country since January 2021.
Boebert also highlighted the influx of fentanyl overdoses and sex trafficking, which she attributed to the lack of border security from the Biden administration.
She tweeted that Biden “intentionally ceded command & control of our border to cartels. His dereliction of duty caused the deaths of over 900 Coloradans from fentanyl, enabled sex-trafficking, & allowed an invasion.”
Boebert’s motion may not result in an immediate vote, as House leadership has just two days to decide how to proceed.
“Under Rule IX in the House, we can bring up certain pieces of legislation under a privileged motion. So I would go to the House floor and call up my articles of impeachment and read it in its entirety. And at that point, leadership has a maximum of two days to respond and see if it’s going to be sent to committee or a vote on the articles themselves,” Boebert said during an exclusive interview with Fox News.
Boebert’s move to impeach Biden comes amid a series of impeachment efforts from House Republicans, including from Reps. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., and Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.
Ogles introduced articles of impeachment against Joe Biden and Kamala Harris earlier this month, while Greene introduced impeachment articles against Biden and several members of his administration, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, FBI Director Chris Wray, U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
